Personal Mantras

Probly don't have time to read these but some of them were good for me.
Personal Mantras

Here are some I liked in particular:
* "I used to be disgusted; now I try to be amused." - Elvis Costello

* "Can it wait 15 minutes?" -- When I'm really pressed for time, I ask this question to about everything. When the answer is yes, it's a safe bet it can wait until tomorrow, and I can get back to what's most important. Not a solid rule, but something that helps me prioritize. - terceiro 25 May 2005

* "Adapt, Migrate or Die!" The three options of an organism faced with a changing environment. Krackeman 06 June 2005

* "I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer." Shortened mantra form of Frank Herbert's Litany Against Fear. Desert.Lynx 06 June 2005

* "It all pays the same." (useful when the pointy-haired boss dumps another steaming pile of busy work in your inbox) - jeffy

* "It is what it is." -- Helps me accept the present and deal with it, versus whining/wishing things were different. - Gvtexas

* "Every moment is, was or will be 'right now.'" It's comforting to me when I worry about things in the future; I can't explain quite what I find so reassuring about it; just that I'll deal with it when it happens.

Zen or Not dot com

Oh....

Ow....

Jeeeeezzz.... This thing hurts.

Trying to distract myself. But I'm not very good at dealing with pain. I was out setting up the soaker hose, and noticed Leena getting very alert. So I took her by the collar and held onto her trying to get her to ignore the passing dog. She squirmed, but had trouble getting away.... until.... ZOOM-BOOM!!!!

She started to run away and all I had left to hold on to was the 20 foot vinyl coated cable used for her dog run. Nearly the entire 20 feet passed through the crease behind the knuckle on my index finger before I could realize I should let go. I finally let go and found that the pain was only getting started.

Now after about 15 minutes, it just feels like someone is holding my finger on the burner of our stove. That is all. Maybe with the stove on just medium or medium-high. Wait.... That still freagin hurts a lot!!!! Ugh... Maybe I'll need to take some drugs. This is certainly not a zen moment.

"Copy Shop"
Saturday, March 4, 2006, 08:29 PM - James, General
Wow, this movie "Copy Shop" is really amazing. It's so simple and short yet really compelling. It's reminiscent of the Twilight Zone or the Outer Limits TV shows.

It's very impressive the way they did the film (by printing out frames on paper and then refilming the paper). But beyond that, the story just pulls you along. And yet there is no dialog! The music is great. Really amazing...

Summary:
A man wakes up one morning and goes to his work in the copy shop, but finds that when he accidentally photocopies his hand, things spiral out of control.

Barenaked Banjo
Wednesday, February 22, 2006, 05:55 PM - James, Funny, General
Wow, the Barenaked Ladies have some awesome new songs over at myspace.com.
The songs were recorded while they were on tour last fall.

I really like "Everything Has Changed". Ed plays a banjo and I even hear someone playing a freagin harmonica. Ed talks more about the banjo playing experience in his new podcasts.

The podcasts are really entertaining. They've got a funny segment called "Today in Barenaked History". Ed also talks a lot about their recording sessions they've been doing this month. Some of the good news is they've recorded nearly 30 new songs recently! Unfortunately they won't be releasing any until summer 2006. And then it'll be only a dosen or so on an LP with the rest coming out on other disks over a year or so.
