Is this a blog

SO... I took some time off from blogging. Partly I because I was using the blorwag, newsvine and delicious to post stuff. But hey why not post here still? I don't know.

Maybe I will start again. Seems like the cool thing to do these days. Even Brad has a blog! I'll go ahead and start updating my links, lists and notes again too. Oh I almost forgot. I was using Twiki for a while too. That was supposed to replace the blog, but it's just not the same. Hmmm, too many choices. Oh there is myspace and facebook too!

I've added some more wakeboarding panoramas. We figured out some better timing this time out to get in more shots per jump.
Free Bicycle Test Drive

Brit and I have been keeping an eye out for good deals on bicycles since mine is now working again and we think it would be fun to go for some rides together. Today on the way home from work, I spotted a <ins>CyclePro Regent</ins> ten-speed road bike about four blocks from our house.

It was sitting out on the grass strip next to a big flourescant light fixture and an old door. I figured it might be free but didn't want to steal some poor smuck's transportation. [more]

So I went up to the house and rang the doorbell. No one answered so I started to leave but just as I got to the sidewalk, someone openned the door. I asked if they were giving away the bike and they said yes, take it.

The great thing about getting something free, is the person giving it away is usually nearly as excited as the person receiving it. When someone wants your old junk, you feel great, especially if you had been considering hauling it to the dump or some other unproductive form of disposal.

It didn't fit in the trunk but I threw it in anyway since I only had to drive a few blocks. I needed to hit up Costco for my contacts and some milk and had been thinking about riding my mountain bike down there instead of driving the car. But instead, I decided to test out our new-old CyclePro road bike.

The tires needed air badly, only having about 10psi. They were really beat up looking, peeling and bubbling. I got them up to 85psi as suggested by the tire sidewall. I also added some WD-40 to the chain and gears just to be on the safe side. The brakes seemed to be in good working order so I set out down the hill. Before leaving I grabbed my hiking backpack and put the U-lock and a tire pump in it.

The ride there was pretty uneventful. It was a little bumpy in the industrial area and rough going over the various train tracks but that is to be expected on a road bike.

When I left Costco, I loaded up my backpack with 2 gallons of skim and 2 gallons of whole milk along with 2.5 lbs of coffee beans. I figured the milk must have weighed about 32 lbs.

It was easy going on the flat part but when I turned off Airport Way to head up peanut butter bridge above the railroad tracks, I was just about dying. Then it leveled off briefly going under the freeway. But, going up 12th was a major pain.

Now I understand why they have bikes with more than 10 gears. One thing I did to make it easier was ride back and forth across the street to give me some switch-back-like action to make the hill less steep.

I mapped out the route and found it was about 3.6 miles with about 150 feet down then 150 feet back up.

I weighed my bag when I got home and it measured in at 47 pounds!!! Since I weighed in at just under 170 that is a pretty heavy load. Yikes! But this was great, I got everything I needed and didn't have to drive the car one bit. Sweet!

Longer hair

Well, Lorelai is getting longer hair now. It's now long enough to get in her eyes but also to be put up. Brit sent her to school with her hair up in a rubber band on top of her head and she came back with two of them. It's pretty cute. I took some pictures of her with her hair up (<ins>link</ins>). They lighting wasn't great that great but they are cute.

Additionally, I just updated the website with our latest pictures (<ins>link</ins>) through today. Agh, it's only August and I already have over 4.7Gb of photos. I guess It'll be at least one DVD to back them up for 2006.

Zoo and Movies

We went to the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle today (Sunday). We met up with Kara, Mikel & Mathias. It was a blast. And Mathias is getting huge. But I guess that makes sense since he's almost 3. Time flies like the wind, fruit flies like a banana.

Lorelai got to ride the carrousel and feed some birds. We also got to see some brown bears hunt for little fishies. (photos)It was good times and we went early enough in the day that the heat wasn't too bad. The rest of the day was pretty misserable though with the temperature getting way to close to 100.

I picked up a few DVD's from the library a couple days ago so tonight we watched <ins>Sideways</ins>. It was an odd flick. Pretty realistic in the way it portrayed people, but kind of depressing in that respect. We walked away thinking, "It's sad that people are actually like that". Oh well.

Ca-Fiend

Doh!!!

Today at work someone celebrated their 35th year at the company. This was interesting to me in that I <del>hope</del> <ins>plan</ins> to not have to work that long as an employee of multiple companies, let alone one company. This furthers my resolve to work on financial independence.

Aaaanyway, to celebrate, there were snacks and refreshments at our staff meeting. Fruit, bagels, donuts, juice & coffee. It was a a big huge thing of coffee. I had some of all the items except juice.

On most days I bring my own coffee to work in a travel mug and extra for later in a thermos. Today I brought my own but also filled my mug at the meeting several times... I didn't finish off my thermos coffee until later in the afternoon. It turns out that all that EXTRA caffeine in my system is still here at 11:15pm. Hence the doh! I can't sleeeeeeeep......

Catch you on the flip side.
